Volunteering with Kids
on 2 Wheels, Inc.
Our camps run from Monday through Friday. We
have five sessions each day, so we ask volunteers to work for
at least one, or as many as five, sessions every day. You will
be assigned to work with the same camper each day. Our campers
establish a close bond with their volunteers, and the
relationship you have with your camper is an important part of
the camper's success in learning to ride a bike. That's why
your role is so important!
The best kind of volunteer
is the one who wants to help a camper accomplish something
that most of us take for granted. The great part about it is
that as a volunteer, you will play a huge role in helping a
child "fit in."; Our campers feel a strong sense of
accomplishment when they learn to ride a bike independently,
and you can help them do that in a relatively short amount of
time. It's a rewarding experience for both campers and
volunteers.
Volunteers are all kinds of people. Some of
our volunteers are college students working on education or
physical education degrees. Some of them are high school
students. Some volunteers are adapted PE teachers or
educators, and some are people who love working with kids. We
even have occupational and physical therapists who work at our
camps. Some volunteers return year after year because they
love this experience.
If you are interested in
volunteering with Kids on 2 Wheels, Inc., please contact us
through our website. We will contact you to talk about
volunteering at future camps.
When you come to camp and
are volunteering with us for the entire day, please bring your
lunch. You might also want to bring a water bottle. When your
camper is riding independently, you will be able to go outside
and ride together, but you must bring your bike helmet and
your bike in order to ride with your camper. Finally, you also
need to be able to move (walk, jog, run) with your
camper. |
